Learn Xiangqi

Xiangqi is played on a 9x10 board. The two sides are Red and Black. The goal is to capture the enemy General (King).

🌊 The River

The board is divided by a "River" in the middle.

Elephants cannot cross the river.
Soldiers gain the ability to move sideways after crossing the river.

👑 The Palace

The 3x3 marked area with diagonal lines is the "Palace".

• The General (King) and Advisors may never leave the Palace.

🐴 The Horse

Moves one step orthogonal and one step diagonal (like an 'L').

Important: Unlike Chess Knights, Xiangqi Horses can be blocked! If there is a piece adjacent to the Horse, it cannot jump in that direction.

💣 The Cannon

Moves exactly like a Chariot (Rook).

To Capture: It must jump over exactly one piece (friend or foe) to strike the target behind it.
